A Message from the Founder

I am an education writer and a long-term companion to the growth of Chinese students studying abroad. For the past eight years, I have been working in education and guardianship in the UK, witnessing countless young people on their journeys of studying in a foreign country. I have always believed that studying abroad is not only an academic challenge, but also a profound test of psychology, emotions, and character.

Through years of work, I have deeply felt that Chinese students overseas often face not only the pressure of academics and language, but also loneliness and emotional struggles. Especially during the pandemic, when many children could not return home, I chose to stay on the front line to personally care for those who remained in the UK. During that time, I cooked with them, accompanied them to see doctors, celebrated festivals together, and even walked them back to their dorms on cold winter nights. I was not only a guardian, but also a source of emotional support.

I have published several documentary works on international students, and my new book “The Journey of Youth: My Study Abroad Days in the UK” will soon be published in China. These writings are dialogues with real lives, and a record of my emotional connection with the international student community.

At U.U, what I hope to build is not merely a guardianship service system, but a way of care filled with warmth. I am willing to be like an “overseas mother,” listening with heart, responding with care, and supporting every step of your growth in a foreign land.

May your journey on the other side of the world no longer be a lonely race.
You are never alone.

Legal Safeguarding

UK Department for Education 2025 Regulations: Legal Definition of a Nominated Guardian

✅ Mandatory Requirements
- All international students under the age of 18 must appoint a qualified guardian;
- The guardian must be an adult aged 25 or above;
- The guardian must be legally and permanently resident in the UK (holding permanent residency or other long-term legal status).

❌ Individuals Who Cannot Act as Guardians:
1. Private fostering families – excluded due to lack of standardised supervision and regulatory oversight;
2. Close relatives of the student – excluded to ensure independence and effective safeguarding;
3. Parents holding a “Parent of a Child Student visa” – as their immigration status is for accompanying purposes only, not for independent guardianship.

📌 Policy Implications: Common arrangements such as “relatives taking care of the child” or “a mother accompanying the child in the UK” will no longer meet legal requirements. All international students must appoint a qualified independent guardian to ensure legal,

How We Select Host Families

  1. Thorough Background Checks – All household members must pass DBS and background screening.

  2. Safety & Comfort – Homes must meet fire and safety standards, with a private bedroom for each student.

  3. Compliance & Training – Families are approved through our internal process and relevant safeguarding requirements.

  4. Ongoing Monitoring – We conduct regular visits to maintain consistent safeguarding standards.

  5. Student Matching – Placements are made based on each student’s age, interests, and individual needs.

    📌 We believe a suitable host family is more than accommodation – it is a vital source of care and support during a student’s time in the UK..
